Before Adam left S. Korea, he sent
me several emails containing suggestions for equipment to buy. He even included
URLs for the appropriate web sites to make it easier for me to buy gear.
One piece of
equipment he recommended was an Osprey Exos backpack. He has a 48 liter and I
chose to buy a 58 liter size. I like the pack. Before we started hiking I tried
to watch a You Tube presentation about each item, but admittedly I had to rush
things and apparently missed some key information along the way.
So we get a full month into our hike
before I make note of what turned out to be some very important adjusting
straps. One inside the pack is to be pulled tight as that makes a bow in the
pack's shape, which creates space for airflow between the pack and one's back.
The other two straps are located on
the front of the shoulder straps of the pack and when pulled tight make the
straps conform to one's shoulders. That is to say a snug fit is created and the
pack does not sway on the back or tire out the shoulders due to being loose.
So the other
morning I ask Adam "hey, what are these straps for?" He could not
believe I had gone that far without making all those neat adjustments the
designer of the pack intended.
After making said
adjustments, it was like I had a new pack! Life was suddenly so much easier. Now I
could hear the birds sing and take better note of my surroundings because my
mind was not constantly focused on the unnecessary pain I had been dealing
with.
There is an
application to be made to spiritual things. Humanity has a divine Designer who
in His Word has made it clear what adjustments we, as rebellious sinners, must
make in our lives if we are to have a personal relationship with Him. If we
refuse to make those adjustments our lives will fail to bring Him glory and our
short pilgrimage on this earth will needlessly be harder.
All the information we
need has been provided by our Designer in the Bible. Check it out and
apply what you read there.
