Two are
Better than One
Tonight we are staying in the Finger
Board Shelter located in Harriman State Park, just south of Warwick, NY. We
walked about 14 mi (+) to get here.
This day's walk was tough and
included obstacles with names like The Lemon Squeezer and the Agony Grinder. We thought the last 3 miles to
the shelter would never end.
Entrance to
the Lemon Squeezer
The Lemon Squeezer is like the Fat
Man's Squeeze up at Grand Father mountain and has high rock walls on both
sides. Nephew is strong enough that he just bulled his way through it with his
pack on. Uncle knew he could not follow suit.
So I lifted my pack up to Nephew using my trekking pole and
then walked through the small space easily. After that challenge there was a
wall straight up. Again Nephew was able to climb up high enough in it to throw
his pack up and then negotiate the climb. He told me "Uncle you may want
to take the path around this wall because I have no idea how I just climbed
it."
But once again I lifted up my pack
to him with a pole and then studied the wall. I quickly saw the necessary hand
holds and clambered up.
In Ecclesiastes 4 we are told
"Two are better than one because they can help each other succeed."
Today was a clear example of that ancient, but still very relevant, biblical
truth.
Team work is so important. Please
join our "hiking to help refugees" team by giving toward our goal of
$100K and by praying for us as we do this thru hike. And thanks ahead of time
for joining.
David(Uncle)
