When you least expect it!
A few days ago we passed
through Palmerton, PA and had to do the big rock scramble Adam made some
pictures of and posted. He is our navigator and he told me before we
left town that the next 20 miles or so would be dry. That is no springs
would be found along the way.
So
as we hiked the 7 miles or so after the rock scramble, I drank water
only sparingly. Adam got way ahead of me at one point, and then for
like the 20th time since VA, Uncle momentarily left the trail and had to
retrace his steps after realizing he missed a turn. Because I did that I
was forced to look up hill as I regained the AT.
And what did I see sitting on the top of the hill? A one gallon jug of water!
At
that point I was mad at myself for having to back track so did not run
up to get it. But I did not have to walk far after seeing it until I ran
into Adam who was already setting up his tent. As I sat down I noted I
had lost my camp shoes along
the way. Adam said " I will go look for them" and took off. I told him about the jug before he left. He came back in about 15 minutes with the jug and we chemically treated it. No more water problem! He did not find my shoes but I will soon get more.

But
here is the point I want to make. Getting lost meant I had to look
uphill. Losing my shoes led to Adam doing some back tracking even though
he was tired. And the biggest issue facing us was solved.
The
next morning we hooked up with a thru hiker who paid $50 to stay at a
nearby B&B because he was out of water. So the jug on the hill in
effect saved us big $!
Romans
8:28 teaches that God causes all things to work for the good for those
who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
This includes even getting lost from time to time so that larger purposes can be fulfilled. And we rest in that truth.
