Fourth Trail Visit

Since the beginning of our thru hike, we have known we would visit the Lennon family of Pomona, NY. Why? Because their eldest, Rachel, is Adam's girlfriend and they have been together in S. Korea teaching the last few years. She will finish her contract in August and then return to the USA to work on a Masters Degree. Note that in the picture her dad, Owen Sr., is holding up a phone so that Rachel can be in the photo Adam made before we retired on our second night.

The parents are Owen and Rose.  Their son is Owen Jr., a  Marine.
Back left is David, then Charlie, Kelly's beau, then Own Jr. Jen his gal,
then Rose, Owen Sr. who is holding up the phone so Rachel, who is
still in S. Korea teaching, can be in the photo. Rachel is the eldest child
 and Adam's girlfriend.

Those 2 nights make 7 nights we have spent off the AT, and the zero day we took yesterday was our 3rd. We spent other nights in hotels and a hostel, plus 2 with the Southerlands in WV.
Owen picked us up at the Bear Mtn Bridge on Wed around 17:00. It passes over the Hudson River. We had just passed through a zoo located by
the bridge and there got to see our first bear. Adam made a picture of it. It's funny to be walking the AT and pass through a zoo, but that's how it is set up.
We were tired and barely able to walk when Owen met us. Plus we were covered with bites made by black flies. We had been tormented by them for 3 days. So in brief, we were in dire need of a full day off, lots of good food, and some special attention.

Well we got 5 star treatment in the Lennon home and for that we are extremely grateful. They made me, David, feel right at home. We had wonderful fellowship and got to know each other well.  Rose and Owen even gave up their bed so I could sleep in it. That is over the top!

Kelly let us use her car on Thursday and we did a lot of running around, even going to an REI Store in Yonkers for some new equipment. Thanks Kel!

This morning we left their home feeling refreshed and with very full stomachs. Thus we were able to walk 17 miles today.

We will certainly miss the Lennon home! Plus those are the last folks we know between here and Mt. Kathadin. This is the point where you say "so sad!"
