My Trekking Poles: Faith and
Obedience
Well we are now 5 weeks and almost
500 miles into our thru hike. Yah! This means I have had plenty of time to pray
as well as think about a number of subjects.
It also means I
have given my Leki trekking poles names. They are Faith and Obedience.
These poles are
at times all that gets me up the next climb or down the next steep ascent. They
have saved me from tumbling to serious harm a number of times.
When the climb in front of me seems simply
overwhelming, I remember that it is only by faith in my Lord that I will get up
the Hill, my faith reminds me He is able to do exceedingly abundantly more than
I am able to ask or think.
As I plant my poles, I
also remind myself that I am on this safari in obedience to the Lord's leading
in my life.
He has called me to this task on behalf of the suffering S.
Sudanese church.
Now faith and obedience
have to be planted firmly either on solid rock or ground to be effective. At
times I have stuck one of them in a hole and at other times missed the rock I
aimed at and only swiped air. That won't support me!
Even so, in daily life
one must make sure his/her faith is placed in God. If one is simply trusting in
his own power he will soon discover he has no real lasting support. And what a
terrible thing it will be for those who enter eternity to find out their
"trekking pole" was never actually placed on the "Solid
Rock" of Jesus the Messiah.
Something to ponder as
you journey.
Uncle
